Hadron interactions and hadron structure
It was rst pointed out by Drell & Yan (1970) that parton model ideas developed for deep-inelastic scattering could be extended to certain processes in hadron{hadron collisions. The paradigm process, proposed by Drell & Yan, was the production of a massive lepton pair by quark{antiquark annihilation: the Drell{Yan process (illustrated in gure 1). For the production of a lepton pair of invari...
متن کاملHadron Interactions–hadron Sizes
Hadronic interactions are successfully parameterized in different models. Those most frequently applied are the Regge parameterization and the geometrical model. In the present paper we want to apply the geometrical picture to different domains of the hadronic interaction. The model used is a very economical model in that it contains only few parameters most of which have a direct physical inte...
متن کاملDiffraction in hadron-hadron interactions
Results on soft and hard diffraction in pp and ¯ pp collisions are reviewed with emphasis on factorization and scaling properties of differential cross sections. While conventional factorization breaks down at high energies, a scaling behavior emerges, which leads to a universal description of diffractive processes in terms of a (re)normalized rapidity gap probability distribution.
متن کاملHard diffraction in hadron-hadron interactions and in photoproduction.
Hard single diffractive processes are studied within the framework of the triple–Pomeron approximation. Using a Pomeron structure function motivated by Regge–theory we obtain parton distribution functions which do not obey momentum sum rule. Based on Regge– factorization cross sections for hard diffraction are calculated. Furthermore, the model is applied to hard diffractive particle production...
متن کاملStrangeness and Hadron Structure
The nucleon wave function may contain a significant component of s̄s pairs, according to several measurements including the π-nucleon σ term, charm production and polarization effects in deep-inelastic scattering. In addition, there are excesses of φ production in LEAR and other experiments, above predictions based the naive Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule, that may be explained if the nucleon wave func...
